A success story: Thrissur native Viji earns Rs 50,000 per month by water lilies floriculture in artificial ponds

THRISSUR: Viji, a native of Thrissur earns an average of Rs 50,000 per month by selling water lilies online. She grows more than 100 varities of water lilies in the 60 cent yard of her rented house. They are cultivated in plastic tubs.

Viji, a B.com gradulate loved gradening since college days and later learned floriculture through social media. Three years ago, she started focusing on water lilies. Trandula is the most expensive water lily which costs Rs 40,000 per piece. Other rates starting from Rs 150.

The demand changes as per the speciality of water lily. There are also Indian varities in her collection. Her family supports her on this venture. Viji aims to create new varities of water lilies and to win international competition in Thailand. So, she has learnt about artificial pollination through friends in Thailand and through articles.
