When will the salary be paid? KSRTC unable to give salary on May 10; banks not lending loans

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: When will the salary be paid? KSRTC employees are asking one another yet, the management is unable to give an accurate reply. The KSRTC employees have not received their salaries despite the strike on May 6, organized in protest against the management for not paying salaries on time. In spite of receiving Rs 30 crores as government aid for salary distribution on Monday, employees’ salaries continue to be delayed, as the management lacks rest of the amount.

Like last month, the management is trying to take a loan of around Rs 50 crores from banks. However, reports suggest that the KSRTC management had approached the co-operative banks for loans last day, but they were not willing to lend money. Earlier, the transport minister had promised to pay salaries by May 10 in the arbitration talks held to avoid last week’s strike. However, the minister withdrew from the salary issue as the BMS and INTUC unions went ahead with the strike. The KSRTC had suffered a loss of Rs 5 crores due to the strike. Meantime, the unions are planning to stage strong protests if the salaries are not paid by Tuesday midnight.
