Chennithala held talks with Oommen Chandy to quell letter controversy; groups to block Sudhakaran’s entry to KPCC, new KPCC chief to be declared soon

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The declaration of the KPCC chief will be held soon. In the wake of Mullapally’s exit from the post, a new chief will be appointed soon, said sources in party high command. But the party high command has not conducted any talks with Kerala leaders on who should head KPCC next.

Even though Sudhakaran’s name is being actively considered for the post, Kerala leaders have already advised the party high command that his style of functioning could pose a headache to the party later. Kodikunnil Suresh is also being considered by the high command to the top post in KPCC.

Leaders of ‘A’ and ‘I’ groups say that an organised attempt is being made in the party to destroy party groupism. They also say that senior leaders are telling the wrong things to high command about the in-party groups. Thus it has been confirmed that the declaration of a new president of KPCC would lead to the formation of new groups in the party and if anybody other than Sudhakaran becomes the party chief then it will lead to serious repercussions.

The groups also allege that setting apart their differences K Sudhakaran, K C Venugopal and V D Satheesan is conducting talks for days to select the new party president. V D Satheesan came to the leadership of the opposition due to the pressure exerted by these leaders on the high command. The group leaders also allege it is they who empower the high command to take decisions surpassing the group interests. They also allege some of their supporters had also fallen into the trap laid down by these leaders.

Meanwhile, sources say that the controversy which erupted in the party following Chennithala’s letter to Sonia Gandhi has come to an end with the talks between Chenithala and Oommen Chandy. Following this, Oommen Chandy’s confidante K C Joseph has also said that they won’t create another row over the letter controversy.
