Election defeat: CPM takes action against seven in Kollam, demotes two leaders

KOLLAM: The CPM on Friday took action against 7 leaders in connection with the election defeats in Kundara and Karunagapally. District secretariat members PR Vasanthan and NS Prasannakumar were demoted to the area committee. An agreement was reached at the district leadership meeting to warn five leaders, including district secretariat member B Thulasidhara Kurup, the husband of former minister Mercykutty Amma.

A commission convened by S Rajendran investigated the defeat. The committee submitted the report after recording the statements of more than 100 people, including the candidates and party leaders. The report stated that there was serious organizational failure in both constituencies and a lack of vigilance on the part of the leaders. The report also recommended stern action against the culprits.
