THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that the Congress leadership should respond to the statement of KPCC president K Sudhakaran that the CPM is the main opponent. It is up to the Congress leadership to clarify the political position. The CM said that this was an issue raised earlier and people are evaluating it. Sudhakaran had said that the CPM, not the BJP, is the main opponent in Kerala.

The Chief Minister said that this is different from the general position adopted by the country today and it is not known whether the Congress in Kerala has a special position. The Congress leadership in Kerala has not hesitated to join hands with the BJP in the elections. Even when the All India leadership came, the allegation was that there was no effective investigation by the central agencies. The CM also alleged that the BJP and the Congress had targeted the CPM and the Left Front during the Assembly elections.

At the same time, the CPM accused Sudhakaran of always having a friendly attitude towards the BJP. Sudhakaran has publicly declared that the BJP is not the main enemy and therefore need not be opposed. This gives clear indications that the Congress in Kerala will reconcile with communalism at any time. There are clear indications of UDF-BJP alliance in several constituencies in the last elections.

The Congress also joined hands with the communal forces in the local elections. The verdict in the election is proof that the people of Kerala have ruthlessly rejected this. However, the KPCC leadership has indicated that it is not ready to back down. In a statement, the CPM state secretariat demanded that High Command and Sonia Gandhi state their position on the KPCC's approach to the BJP.
