THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In addition to Lok Tantric Janata Dal, the CPM has not assured ministerial berths to other small constituent parties having won with a single member. The CPM leadership held bilateral talks with constituent parties like INL, Janadhipathya Kerala Congress, Kerala Congress (B) and Congress S. Everyone had demanded a cabinet berth.
However, the CPM made it clear to everyone that there are limitations when there are five constituent parties with one member. The CPM alone has 67 MLAs and the CPI has 17. The CPI should be given four ministers. The number of ministers should not exceed a maximum of 21. The Kerala Congress (M) having five MLAs can be given only one minister. In this situation, things should go on smoothly.
The INL claimed that it should be considered a party which had been with them for 27 years and had wrested the crucial constituency like Kozhikode South. Janadhipathya Kerala Congress representative Antony Raju said that he should be considered as the senior member among the single members now won. He also claimed that he was a member of the cabinet in 1996. Kerala Congress (B) reminded that they were rejected last time. Kerala Congress S has an emotional bond with the Left Front from 1980 onwards.
All parties have been informed to meet again before the LDF meet on May 17. With this, there is a curiosity as to who among the single members would get ministerial berths.
