‘What right does management-quota minister have to insult opposition? CM is concerned about his son-in-law not attaining status of Speaker’, says VD Satheesan

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Opposition leader VD Satheesan asked what right does Minister Muhammad Riyas have to accuse the opposition that their backbone is made of banana stem. Satheesan criticized that someone who became a minister on management quota has no right to insult the opposition and Riyas is deliberately trying to provoke.

Opposition leader also alleged that what happened in the assembly is a family agenda to make the Speaker a laughingstock. “No matter how much PR work is done, the CM’s son-in-law is not attaining the speaker’s status. So, the Chief Minister is trying to ridicule AN Shamseer because of this fear.”, said Satheesan.

The Speaker had denied permission to present the adjournment motion notice given by the opposition regarding the brutal attack of a 16-year-old girl on the road in Pothancode. The Speaker had said that since the notice was not of urgent nature, Uma Thomas could raise the issue as a first submission. This angered the opposition.

The Speaker said Uma Thomas could raise the matter as a first submission as the notice was not of urgent matter. Opposition leader V D Satheesan said if the violence against women happening under the nose of the Secretariat is not discussed then what for is the assembly. Then the opposition trooped to the well of the house with the banners. The opposition raised slogans that the Speaker should follow justice and respect the rights of the opposition.

Meantime, Minister P A Mohammad Riyas said don't listen to the opposition whose backbone is made of banana stem. The minister's remarks were during the ruling and opposition row in the assembly.
