Kerala to witness heavy rainfall in coming hours; IMD issues warning

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian meteorological department has predicted the possibility of high rains in the state on Monday. Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad districts will likely receive rain today. A yellow alert has been declared in these districts.

In Pathanamthitta, the rain may chance a return on Tuesday, while Thiruvananthapuram will see strong rains on Wednesday. There is a possibility of rain in the Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta and Idukki districts on the 16th of May and Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Pathanamthitta districts will get ample rainfall on the 17th.

  • Move indoors immediately at the first sign of lightning. Staying in open areas increases the risk of lightning strikes.

  • Keep windows and doors closed during periods of strong winds and thunderstorms. Stay inside the building and try not to touch the wall or floor as much as possible.

  • Unplug household appliances. Avoid proximity to electrical appliances during thunderstorms.

  • Avoid using the telephone during thunderstorms. It is okay to use a mobile phone.

  • Avoid playing outdoors and on terraces, including children, if the weather is cloudy.
