14-year-old diagnosed with Nipah: Health Department with confirmation; control cell started at Malappuram

MALAPPURAM: A 14-year-old resident of Perinthalmanna, Malappuram, has been diagnosed with Nipah in the state. Health Minister Veena George informed that the Nipah test conducted in the state has confirmed positive. The health minister added that the final confirmation can be given only when the results from the Pune virology lab come. A control cell has started operating in Malappuram.
The health minister informed that the steps have been taken as per the protocol and precautionary measures are being taken even before the result comes out. On the request of the relatives, the child will be transferred to the medical college. The 14-year-old is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kozhikode. He was transferred from a private hospital in Perinthalmanna to Kozhikode yesterday after he showed symptoms of Nipah Versus infection. It is suspected that the child contracted the disease from Mombin fruit eaten during a tour to Wayanad. There is no official confirmation of this.
