‘Borrowed Rs 6 lakh to cover marriage expenses, lied to husband’; San Racheal’s suicide note emerges
CHENNAI: The police have recovered the suicide note of model and influencer San Rachael (26), who ended her life. She was known for her bold stance against colour based discrimination. Police said she had financial liabilities.
She had borrowed Rs 6 lakh for her marriage. She borrowed the money through wife of her husband’s friend to cover the wedding expenses. She borrowed the money without the knowledge of her father and husband. She told her husband that her father is meeting all the expenses. Her note said that she was not able to repay the money. A letter to her father has hinted about the money she borrowed from a person known as Venkat Anna. Police said there is no mystery in her death.
She died after consuming an overdose of sleeping pills. San, born and brought up in Puthucherry, lost her mother at a young age. She was then raised by her father D Gandhi and she turned into modelling with his encouragement. Although opportunities were denied initially because of her skin color, Rachel fought against discrimination and become famous quickly.
She has won several regional and national beauty titles, including Miss Dark Queen Tamil Nadu (2019), Miss Best Attitude (2019), Miss Puducherry (2020/2021), and Queen of Madras (2022, 2023). She came second in the Miss Africa Golden India (2023) competition. She has represented India in several international competitions. Rachel was also the founder of Rose Noir Fashion Grooming, a modeling training institute.
