Wound on Vani Jairam's body: Body shifted for postmortem, wound might have happened when she fell down, say police

CHENNAI: It is indicated that the information about singer Vani Jairam's death came out late. Vani Jairam was found dead at her residence in Nungambakkam in Chennai. After her husband's death, Vani had been living alone in Chennai for the last three years.

The maid reached Vani's house at 11 am on Saturday and tried the calling bell. However, the door remained closed. As there was no response from the inside, the maid called the singer's neighbours and relatives. Following this, the relatives arrived at her home and contacted the police. When the police opened the house, Vani Jairam was seen lying down with injuries on her forehead. Although she was immediately taken to the hospital, she was soon declared dead. The body has been shifted to the hospital for postmortem.

The police said that Vani may have collapsed and died in the room. Chennai Deputy Commissioner Shekhar Deshmukh told the media that there was a wound on Vani's forehead and this may have happened when her head hit the teapoy in the room. The body is currently kept at the mortuary of Omandurar Medical College.
