Pink police to patrol late at night; Government with new plans to assure women's safety

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: It is toiling and fear-inducing for ladies to venture out into the dark hours of the night in the capital. The recurring attacks on women, mostly the abominable incident that happened just under the nose of museum police have revealed one thing— the capital is still not a place for ladies. The police meanwhile are adopting a lackadaisical approach to proceed with such cases. In just one year, 6 incidents of assault happened towards women in the city. Four of the attackers caught showed violent sexual demeanors. There are accusations about the police not doing the required patrolling in the dead of the night. There is currently one women's station working in Trivandrum. Interestingly, no such cases of assault reach here. In an odd practice, all the officers in this station make it a ritual to leave the office by 6 at night.

In the newly adopted rules, lady officers will be put on duty and patrolling at night. The Vellayambalam-Museum stretch will see a cavalcade of police on patrol. Bike patrolling will also be introduced in the capital. Adding to this, Pink police will also start patrolling for the first time. Till now, the pink police only worked till evening. The extension of time is in the wake of the repeated atrocities hurled at women in the city.
