Rotten fish brought from Andhra Pradesh in two containers seized in Kochi

KOCHI: Rotten fish brought in two containers in Maradu, Ernakulam has been seized. The fish in the first container were in a worm-eaten state and the second container had decayed fish. The containers are said to have arrived from Andhra Pradesh.

The locals informed the Maradu municipality after a foul smell emanated from the container. Following that, the officials arrived and inspected. There were no drivers or other employees in the two vehicles carrying the fish. Anyone could open the doors. That is why the officials were able to open the container and take the fish out. The drivers of the vehicle could not be traced. They are suspected to be somewhere nearby. Their clothes were found hanging on top of the container to get it dried up. They are deliberately staying away as the inspection is going on.

The samples of the fish brought in the first container has been sent for testing. The officials of the food and safety department in Tripunithura had directed to destroy the fish in the second container. Police said action is being taken.
