THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: After rectifying the errors of the first test mission, ISRO's SSLVD-2 small satellite launch rocket has geared up for its second test. It will take off from Sriharikota on Friday at 9.18 am.

The mission will launch India's own earth observation satellite EOS-07, AzaadiSat2 and Janus 01 from US firm Antaris into an orbit 450 km above Earth. The total weight of the satellites is 334 kg. EOS-07 weighs 200 kg. 134 kg for the other two.

This is the first time in Indian space mission that a launch vehicle is being relaunched after rectifying the errors of the incomplete first mission within six months. The initial launch's fuel efficiency, rocket separation at various stages, trajectory system, software, satellite launch, etc. were all assessed. The mission's failure was caused by the third stage shaking, which changed the trajectory control system. The second launch will take place by rectifying all these.

The first launch was on August 7 last year. The 137 kg earth observation satellite EOS-02 and 'AzaadiSAT' built by 'Space Kids India' students were lost that day.

The SSLV is designed to carry a payload of 500 kg into the orbit. The PSLV can carry a payload of up to 1,750 kg into orbit. Low cost, speed, multi-satellite capability, on-demand launch and launch infrastructure are some of the distinguishing features of SSLV.
