Brain drain prevention study

study

About 35,000 students from Kerala go abroad for higher studies every year. Children who go for higher education have many goals. The most important of which is employment abroad. Even if that is not possible, having a foreign degree is more likely to acquire better jobs in India. In terms of financial gain, working abroad for five years is equivalent to working back home for 15 years. Not all students go to study abroad to settle in a foreign country. Most of them want to work for four to five years, clear their debts, and return home with their savings. Everyone would like to go to work or study at places where there are more opportunities and possibilities. It cannot be prevented by studies or legislation.

Students and their parents have the right to decide where to study. At the same time, legislations to regulate agencies that recruit youth for higher studies are welcome. To study this, a committee with Digital University VC Prof. Saji Gopinath as chairman has been formed along with another committee with Kannur University VC Prof. Gopinath Ravindran to study student migration as well. The studies aim to prevent brain drain, which can be financially and cognitively detrimental. Regulating agencies can to some extent prevent children from going to foreign universities that are not recognized here. Children are going to foreign universities by applying online without the help of any agency. The main challenge is the lack of opportunities and high salaries in the state. This is not something that can be fixed quickly.
It requires long-term planning along with development. Earlier there was a practice of going abroad for post-graduation. Now, children are looking for ways to study abroad right after completing Plus Two.

The flow to abroad points to the need for further improvement in the quality of higher education in the state. At the same time, Higher Education Minister R Bindu stated in the Assembly that there will be no attempt to stop Malayali students from studying abroad. The minister said that all the facilities available abroad will be provided here for the students. It's not possible that fast. If the government really wants to stop the brain drain, then they should first permit to start foreign universities in the state. If the government leases land, it will pave the way for setting up campuses of foreign universities here as well. The arrival of foreign universities can be made possible by the efforts of prominent Malayalis working abroad in the academic field and so on. Brain drain cannot be prevented by studying without trying to implement the same.
