cpi

CHATHANNOOR: A local committee member barged into the house of Chirakkara CPI local committee member and hacked him. CPI Uliyanadu branch secretary and local committee member Binu (45) was hacked by Sunil Kumar, another branch secretary and local committee member, in connection with the dispute over the appointment in Chirakkara Service Cooperative Bank.

The incident happened yesterday at 1.30 pm. Sunil Kumar reached Binu's house with a sword and hacked him on his head after creating an atmosphere of terror. Binu blocked the sword with his hand and so he sustained only minor injuries. Otherwise, the injuries would have been more serious. Though Sunil fled after Binu’s relatives and locals came running, he was later arrested by the Chathannoor police.

There was a dispute within the CPI itself over the appointment of Binu Kumar's wife and daughter of a CPI woman leader in the Chirakkara Cooperative Bank. CPI local committee members clashed yesterday following the dispute over the appointment of relatives of party leaders. Binu injured was first admitted to Nedungolam Taluk Hospital and later to Paripally Medical College for further treatment. Sunil was arrested by the Chathannoor police.
