ANKARA: Death toll from the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria has exceeded 15,000. 2,992 people were killed in Syria, according to the Civil Defence Department. The death toll in Turkey has crossed 9,000. Search for those trapped in the rubble is still on even three days after the earthquake. Adverse weather hampers rescue efforts. Disaster management teams from 25 countries, including India, have joined the rescue operation in Turkey and Syria.
Meantime, the ministry of external affairs said that ten Indians stranded in Turkey are safe. However, a native of Bengaluru, who had visited Turkey for business purposes, has gone missing. The ministry said efforts have been made to trace him and have contacted his family and the company in Bengaluru where he works. India's aid to Turkey continues. Two NDRF teams reached Turkey as part of this operation named Operation Dost. Seven vehicles, 101 rescue workers including five women and four police dogs have reached Turkey. A control room has also been set up at Adana, Turkey.
