Governor extends support to KTU VC, denies allegation that governance came to a standstill

ss

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The governor has given a letter expressing full support to KTU VC Dr Ciza Thomas by rejecting the allegation of syndicate members that the governance came to a standstill.

The VC, who is the Chief Academic and Executive Officer of the university, has the authority to take disciplinary action against any employee, including the registrar. No decision taken by the Syndicate and the Board of Governance contrary to the university act shall be enforced. The governor also informed the VC that it is the VC's discretion to leave these for the consideration of the Chancellor.

The syndicate had appointed a syndicate sub-committee to monitor the day-to-day activities of Vice Chancellor and also decided to freeze the transfer order of 10 employees following Kerala Kaumudi report. The governor said that the VC has the authority to transfer employees and not to accept the syndicate decision as it is illegal.

Governor's instructions

  • The registrar, who has been in charge of the vacant finance officer since last May, does not comply with the rule that the VC should approve files involving financial liability. VC can take action for appointment in the vacant post.
  • Action may be taken against the registrar who has issued notification for appointment without the permission of VC and has not complied with the order to appoint assistants appointed by PSC in the question paper section.
