NEW DELHI: The inspection by the Income Tax Department at the BBC's Mumbai and Delhi offices came to an end on Thursday after around 60 hours. About 10 employees of the accounts and business departments of both the places were stuck in the office since Tuesday, Meanwhile, the news department worked without interruption.
The inspection at the Mumbai office was completed at 8 pm. After an hour and a half, the officials returned after completing the inspection at the Delhi office. Income tax officials reached both places on Tuesday at 11 am.
Income tax sources indicated that financial information was collected from employees and copies of documents were taken. Officials also said data was copied from electronic devices as part of collecting financial transactions, company structure and other details. The BBC also responded that it cooperated as much as possible.
The inspection took place in the business and accounts sections of the sixth floor of the BBC, which operates in a building on KG Marg, Delhi.
