NEW DELHI: Income Tax Department found that the BBC did not pay tax on certain transactions with foreign entities. Income Tax Department informed this after a three-day long inspection of the BBC offices in Delhi and Mumbai.
BBC broadcasts in various Indian languages. But the profitability shown by the firm is disproportionate to the scale of operations in the country. According to the news release, the BBC officials deliberately delayed when asked to produce the documents and contracts. In addition to this, the statement of the employees and crucial documents have been found, the Income Tax Department added.
Meanwhile, BBC has not responded in this regard. The raid followed the controversy related to the banning of the BBC documentary, 'India: The Modi Question' in the country.
