KANNUR: Black flag protest against Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and the preventive detention of youth congress workers, continue even today. Despite heavy security, Youth Congress activists waved black flags at Chudala and Pariyaram in Kannur Monday morning. Eight youth congress workers who protested were taken into custody.
Apart from Kasaragod, policemen from four districts have been assigned for the chief minister's security. 911 policemen have been deployed. 14 DySPs are also on security
duty. Security has been arranged under the charge of Kasaragod district police chief. The chief minister's first programme is in Cheemeni Jail. The chief minister has four other official programmes today. The police said black colour is not banned for the chief minister’s programme.
Black clothes and masks were banned in the programme attended by the chief minister in Kozhikode yesterday. The college authorities had asked the students of Government Arts College in Meenchanda, where the programme was held, to avoid black in advance. The police asked two students to remove their black masks. The police also interrogated the students wearing black t-shirts.
As part of the chief minister's visit, the police also untied the black flag tied near the death house of CPM former MLA. The chief minister had visited the house of former MLA C P Kunju, who died the other day, on Francis Road last afternoon. Just before this, the special branch officers noticed the black flag tied to the post on the side turning towards Kunju's house at the junction and removed it.
Meantime, opposition leader V D Satheesan came forward criticizing the chief minister's security. Satheesan said that he was proud of the protesting KSU activists and mocked the chief minister for calling himself a coward. The opposition leader also said that the chief minister is lucky enough to see the black flags from Kasaragod to Thiruvananthapuram.
