MUMBAI: The Reserve Bank of India has announced that UPI payments service has been made available to citizens of G20 countries arriving in India from Tuesday. Until now, UPI was available only to residents of India and non-resident Indians.
UPI payment service will initially be made available to G20 nationals arriving through three airports. They are Bengaluru, New Delhi and Mumbai. They will be given a Prepaid Payments Instrument (PPI) wallet at the airports. It can be linked to UPI and can be used to buy goods from around 5 crore shops.
The service can also be availed at selected meeting places. Money can be transferred by scanning the QR code. Wallets are approved by ICICI Bank, IDFC First Bank and non-banking financial PPI institutions such as Pine Labs and Transcorp International.
