Woman dies after house catches fire in Kottayam; husband, son sustain injuries

KOTTAYAM: A woman died after her house was gutted in a fire. The dead is Rajam (70) of Manimala in Kottayam. Her husband Selvarajan (76) and son Vinish (30), who were in the house sustained injuries. They have been admitted to the medical college hospital. The incident happened Friday early morning. The ground floor of the house was completely gutted in the fire.


Vinish’s wife and two children who were on the top floor of the house, escaped unhurt. After rescuing his wife and children, Vinish while trying to jump from the top floor sustained injuries.

Selvaraj and Rajam, who were on the ground floor, were brought out by the locals and the fire brigade. Rajam's condition was serious after inhaling poisonous smoke. The rescue operations were first conducted by the locals. The Kanjirapally fire brigade arrived but as the vehicle could not reach the house, the officials had to walk one kilometer to reach the house.
