It was decided to bring Megha-Tropiques-1 back to Earth following the United Nations' recommendation to remove obsolete satellites from orbit. The remaining fuel on the satellite was used to maneuver the satellite into the atmosphere. Megha-Tropiques-1 was launched on October 12, 2011. The mission of the satellite was tropical weather observation.
