KOCHI: Health Minister Veena George on Saturday said that air quality monitoring system will be installed in hospitals as part of disease surveillance. The minister informed that the system to monitor how respiratory conditions vary with air quality levels will be equipped in Ernakulam.

Through this, it is possible to detect and prevent disease at an early state. For this purpose, modern air quality monitoring equipment will be installed in selected health institutions in Ernakulam district. These devices will help strengthen the surveillance system for respiratory diseases. This system is being established under the 'one health' scheme being implemented in the state.

At the same time, the Health Minister had announced that the residents of Kochi must wear masks to combat the toxic fumes from the Brahmapuram waste plant. The decision was taken in a review meeting chaired by the health minister. Students going to the exam are advised to wear masks. The government is ready to face any situation at present, the minister said.
