Fire in Brahmapuram: Seeks legal advice from America to douse flames, warning

KOCHI: Collector N S K Umesh said they have sought the help of New York Fire Rescue Service as the fire in Brahmapuram waste plant has not been fully extinguished. He said that 95 percent of the fire in the plant has been doused. He added that there is a possibility of fire again in two and three acres of sector 6 and 7 areas where the fire has been completely extinguished and proper operations have been started there. The expert advice of the American Fire Department was sought via online. The district administration said they have informed that the present method of extinguishing the fire is appropriate. The smoke that rose from more than six feet deep pit taken on the right side of the plant was extinguished after continuous spraying of water.

Health survey from 14
Minister Veena George said in a meeting of the health department at the Ernakulam Guest House that a health survey will be conducted in Kochi from Tuesday. Health workers will visit homes. Expert treatment will be ensured for those who need it. Medical camps and services of mobile units will be provided. The services of the specialist doctors of the medical college will be made available at the Kakkanad Health Centre. SWAAS clinics will be started in all urban health centres.

The Kochi unit of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has warned that toxic smoke can lead to health problems. Masks such as N 95 are not resistant to gases.
