Doctors taking bribes from patients will get deserved treatment: Minister Veena George

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Doctors taking bribes from patients will be dealt an iron fist manner, says health minister Veena George. Patients who are ailing and vulnerable reach the hospital in hope of aid. Doctors misusing their profession for filling pockets will be ousted from service. Minister was responding during the questioning hour in the assembly.

"The government hospitals house many doctors who follow their profession religiously and are ready for any sacrifice as their ethos proves. However, there are also some anomalies in the list which brings shame to the whole profession and government.” the minister said.

MLA K B Ganesh Kumar raised the question in the assembly. Albeit announcing a detailed investigation, the speaker ordered a report to be submitted after the investigation as the question was raised inside the assembly.

The minister also said about working on a new law to stop attacks on health workers. She explained about the case which saw surgical scissors getting trapped inside the stomach of a lady. The gaffe was admitted by the minister who said a second investigation was ordered after the first one was not deemed satisfactory.
