KOCHI: The Kerala High Court, which observed that all the rules of solid waste management were violated at the Brahmapuram waste treatment plant in Kochi, ordered the Kochi Municipal Corporation to produce documents regarding the contract awarded to operate the plant. It also asked the civic body to provide information on the amount spent on waste management during the seven-year period.
The division bench comprising Justice SV Bhatti and Justice Basant Balaji directed the Chief Engineer of the Pollution Control Board to inform the court what action it would take against the corporation and the operators of the plant.
High Court was hearing the suo motu petition initiated by it in connection with the fire at the Brahmapuram waste treatment plant.
When one of the lawyers informed that a person had died after inhaling poisonous smoke, the court said that it would be a tragedy if that happened. The court asked the government to find out the truth in this regard and submit a report on Tuesday. The court will consider the petitions related to Brahmapuram on Tuesday.
