KOCHI: A special council meeting held yesterday decided to demand a vigilance probe into all waste management contracts at the Brahmapuram plant since 2011. UDF and BJP councilors were excluded and the meeting was held in a closed hall. High-level meeting decisions will be implemented including source waste management. The council thanked the firefighters who worked around the clock to put out the fire at the plant. Civil Defense Department will be rewarded.

Mayor M Anilkumar said in a press conference that a vigilance investigation is being demanded in the context of many allegations regarding the operation of the plant and the construction of a new plant. The contract with GJ Company will also be investigated for corruption. The fire at the plant is mysterious. During bio-mining operations, fire broke out in four places. Allegations are against current and previous contracting companies. A complaint was received that a UDF member was also involved. It was handed over to the Commissioner of Police.

Complaints about biomining were brought to the attention of the company authorities. Legal action will be taken against the company for breach of contract. Violations of the non-subcontracting clause will also be investigated. A firefighting system will be maintained in the plant. Sufficient light will be provided. Roads will be built. More CCTV cameras and fire hydrants will be installed.
