THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Forestry and Dairy Development Minister J Chinchu Rani said that the Ksheeragramam project will be extended to more panchayats and the state will be self-sufficient in milk production. The minister was speaking while inaugurating the distribution of district farmers' awards and the staff quarters at the cattle management center.

The project was implemented in ten panchayats last year. This time it will be extended to twenty panchayats. In this way, about 100 cows will be available in each panchayat. Farmers' grievances were resolved through state-wide dairy meetings. A scheme is being implemented to provide cows to very poor families with a 90 percent subsidy. This is done through dairy societies. The minister said that the state has already achieved 90 percent self-sufficiency in milk production.

In the newly constructed staff quarters at the District Livestock Management Centre, four families can be accommodated. One crore rupees has been spent on the construction of the quarters. The minister presented the award for the best dairy farmer for the year 2021-22 to KN Vijayakumar of Kalliyur and the mixed farmer award to MK Ajithkumar from Avanavancherry. MLA VK Prashanth presided over the function held at Kudappanakunnu Livestock Management Training Centre. District panchayat president Adv D Suresh Kumar was the chief guest. Various officials of the animal husbandry department, veterinary doctors, and other employees participated.
