THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPI state council headquarters M N Smarakam will be renovated with Rs 10 crore, the decision was made. The two-floor building will be given one more additional floor for more rooms for leaders to stay.
Only the rear portion of the building will be made for renovation work. During this time, CPI will use Pattom AITUC office as their temporary home in the capital city. For the fund required, the party council has given approval to pool money from the public between May 1 to 10th. CPI leader V S Sunilkumar called for the outline to be discussed among the party members. However, the secretary Kanam Rajendran said the party executive has decided so it is no point having a discussion again.
M N Govindan who was the party secretary during the first communist government in 1957 was given a memorial posthumously and was named M N Smarakam. After the split in the communist faction in 1964, the property came into CPI's hands.
