17-year-old girl’s suicide in Kollam, boyfriend arrested from Bengaluru

KOLLAM: The police have arrested a youth in the case of the death of a 17-year-old girl in Chadayamangalam. Akhil, a native of Kattambally, was arrested from Bengaluru. He was the girl’s boyfriend. 17-year-old girl was found hanging inside the house on February 25 in the morning.

The girl fell in love with Akhil when she was studying in ninth standard. They were in a relationship for two years. Akhil had bought a phone for the girl. Akhil promised that he would marry her but later backed out. The girl committed suicide because of this. Akhil was arrested on charges of abetment of suicide. The girl's family gave a statement to the police that Akhil harassed the girl despite being forbidden many times. The girl’s mother had lodged a complaint with the Chief Minister and DGP alleging that Akhil had raped her daughter and tempted her to commit suicide.
