NEW DELHI: The BJP has taken the Brahmapuram issue to the national level as its leader and former Union Minister Prakash Javadekar demanded a CBI probe into the incident. Javadekar said that Kerala has violated norms in solid waste management and Kochi has seen its ill effects. He also appealed to investigate matters including possible sabotage in the fire at the landfill.
Javadekar said that the Chief Minister's role in giving away the contract for Zonta should also be probed. "The people of Kochi had serious health problems. Who is responsible for this?", he asked.
"The contract was awarded to Zonta Company. They subcontracted it to another company. The contract taken for 55 crores was subcontracted for 22 crores. The sub-contract was given to a relative of the UDF leader. I am happy that the High Court has registered a suo motu case on the Brahmapuram issue", Javadekar added.
Javadekar also accused the Kerala government of sabotaging Prime Minister's Swachh Bharat scheme.
