Vigilance sleuths raid house of DySP accused in bribery case

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Residence of Thiruvananthapuram Vigilance Special Cell DYSP P Velayudhan Nair, who is accused of taking half a lakh as bribe to rescue the officials caught in a bribery case, was raided by Vigilance sleuths. The raid was conducted by the Special Investigation Unit II. The raid is to find evidence for acquisition of assets beyond the income.

Velayudhan Nair, who was on Vigilance in Pathanamthitta, had arrested Thiruvalla Municipal Secretary S Narayanan and office attendant Haseena Begum for accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000 from a person who approached for a service pertaining to revenue. Velayudhan Nair filed a report in the Vigilance Court and later closed the case stating that it was an error committed by the Vigilance. Rs 50,000 was transferred from Narayanan's account at Federal Bank, Chengannur to the same bank's Kazhakkootam branch on September 30, 2021. An investigation by the Vigilance Intelligence Wing found that the account belonged to Velayudhan Nair's son Shyamlal. During the further investigation, the WhatsApp chats between Velayudhan Nair and the accused Narayanan were found and a case was registered.
