ALUVA: A 17-year-old boy, who tried to save a plus-two student after she jumped into the Periyar River from Marthandavarma bridge, has died. The girl has been admitted to Aluva district hospital with injuries.

The dead has been identified as Gautham, staying in a rented house near Aluva Thayikattukara Railway Garage. The girl aged 17 of Alappuzha was staying with her mother in Palarivattom. The incident happened last evening.

The girl said that she was in a relationship with a native of Malappuram. The police had in December registered a case against him on the complaint of school authorities. The police had on Tuesday summoned him for interrogation. The girl jumped into the river after calling Gautham home and sharing her grief for interrogating her lover without her or her mother’s complaint. She got acquainted with Gautham via social media. His body is kept in the mortuary of Aluva district hospital.
