KOZHIKODE: A temporary employee of the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital has been fired for attempting to influence the survivor in connection with the incident where a young woman was sexually assaulted by a hospital employee in the ICU of the hospital. Five women employees, including a nursing assistant, have been suspended. The action was taken after the hospital employees tried to force the survivor to change her statement in favour of the accused, an attendant.
Deepa, a temporary employee, has been fired. Grade 1 attendants Asya and Shiny Jose, Grade 2 attendants Shaima PE and Shaluja and Nursing Assistant Praseetha Manoli have been suspended. The medical college principal took the action based on the report submitted by the expert committee which investigated the harassment. Minister Veena George had directed the director of the medical education department to conduct an investigation.
Meanwhile, the police have registered against the women staff of the hospital under the non-bailable sections such as influencing witnesses and intimidation. Saseendran, who sexually assaulted the woman in the ICU, was earlier arrested by the police. The woman, who underwent thyroid surgery, is still undergoing treatment at the hospital.
