Six students with autism started baking; now earn monthly Rs 1 lakh

autism-to-baking

KOCHI: Six people wanted to break the shackles of autism to try start a business of their own. It all started with baking cookies and brownies and now ‘Awesome Bites’ is turning into a historic startup. The members of Ernakulam autism club including Akash Sanjay, Sohan Bijo, Vaishnav, Antony Aby, Sam Varghese, and Brian worked tirelessly for six months and now they have a profit crossing Rs one lakh.

It was during the COVID times that the club came up with such an idea. More than 70 students are part of the club. Brain’s mother, an expert in Baking helmed the role of teaching the students the knack of the trade. The parents also stayed strong with the club and after Covid ‘awesome bites’ entered the market to a rousing acceptance.

The food safety department has given a license to the start-up. Nowadays, club members have no time to spare from the busy phone calls, mostly from marriage functions asking for cakes. The dividends received are equally shared with the accounts of the six people.

Brownies cost Rs 50 while the 150gm cookies cost Rs 150.
