KOTTAYAM: Kumarakom is all set to welcome the G20 sherpa meeting ahead of the Delhi summit of 2023. 120 and more officials with Z category protection from more than 45 countries will touch the banks of Vembanad near Kumarakom to participate in the summit.
The event is organized in KTDC waterscapes in Kumarakom. The meeting involves the presence of America, China, and the major powers of the old soviet union. The pivotal meetings are scheduled for the 31st and April 1. The meeting in the presence of financial superpowers will see Kumarakom burgeoning as a tourist hub and will invariably help gain India's status as an economically rising power. The Thaneermukkom Bund road and the nearby premises were renovated by the government for Rs 10 crores in wake of the summit.
The KTDC waterscape can house more than 600 officials. Apart from the summit, the delegates from other countries will be also provided the amenities of a coconut lagoon and lake resort. Shikhar boats are also introduced for delegates to enjoy a smooth sail through the serene backwaters. In wake of the summit, Kumarakom and the nearby premises are tightly rounded by the police and the location has been termed a red zone.
