Vaikom Satyagraha: Navodhana Smriti Yatra begins at Aruvipuram

NEYYATTINKARA: The Kerala Navodhana Smriti Yatra led by KPCC working president Kodikunnil Suresh MP to Vaikom Satyagraha Centenary Celebration city started at Aruvipuram. The yatra has been organised by the KPCC.

Opposition Leader VD Satheesan, who inaugurated the Yatra, said that Vaikom Satyagraha was a struggle that paved the way for social change in Kerala. "The Vaikom Satyagraha was a struggle to bring those who were relegated to the back of life to the mainstream. The Vaikom Satyagraha began during a period when one group believed that being able to live as upper castes was a blessing from God, while another group believed that being in lower castes was God's desire. It was a method of struggle in which Gandhiji tested how to bring the imperialist forces to their knees. Memories of Vaikom Satyagraha will give us the energy to question the injustice and iniquity of this era," Satheesan said.

Portraits of Sree Narayana Guru, Mannathu Padmanabhan, Ayyankali and Ayya Vaikunda Swami will be brought to Vaikam through Smriti Yatra. Swami Sandrananda and VD Satheesan handed over the portrait of Sree Narayana Guru to Kodikunnil Suresh MP. KPCC vice president N Sakthan, general secretaries GS Babu and G Subodhan are Jatha vice-captains. KPCC general secretary Mariyapuram Sreekumar is the Jatha manager. The jatha will end at Vaikom on the 29th.

CV Kunhiraman Smriti Sangamam to be held today
The Smriti Yatra will arrive at the CV Kunhiraman Smriti Mandapam prepared in front of the Kerala Kaumudi Pettah office at 11 am today. Following this, floral tributes will be paid to CV Kunhiraman's portrait. D Anilkumar is in charge of CV Kunhiraman Smriti Sangamam.
