BHOPAL: A female cheetah 'Siyaya', translocated from Namibia to India, gave birth to four cubs in the Kuno National Park. Reportedly, mother and babies are healthy. Cheetah Conservation Project officials said the birth of a female cheetah is proof that cheetahs have adapted to India's climate. Earlier, a female cheetah named Asha was pregnant but miscarried. Union Minister Bhupender Yadav has shared pictures of the babies on Twitter.
Recently, Sasha, a female cheetah, died of a kidney ailment. The good news of the cheetah giving birth came as a relief after this sad news. Following Sasha's death, all cheetahs will undergo an ultrasound examination. A blood test will also be done.
In September last year, as part of 'Project Cheetah', India brought eight cheetahs including 5 females and 3 males from Namibia. The cheetahs were brought to the country in a cargo flight as part of the Intercontinental Cheetah Translocation Project. Later, the cheetahs were brought to Kuno National Park from Gwalior Air Force Station by an Indian Air Force helicopter and the animals were released into the wild by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Congratulations 🇮🇳
