THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Beverages Corporation (BEVCO) has a higher than expected turnover in the current financial year. Rs 18,431.25 crore worth of liquor was sold from last April to March 29, 2023. It was Rs 14,468.36 crore in the previous year. The government received Rs 16,073.63 crores in taxes. When the sale is completed on March 31, the revenue will cross Rs 18,500 crore.
Closed bars and retail outlets operating at full capacity and a two per cent hike in sales tax on alcohol in December contributed to the rise in revenue. 215.3 lakh cases of foreign liquor and 109.66 lakh cases of beer were sold. Last year it was 180 lakh and 86.32 lakh cases respectively.
