Donald Trump arrested for alleged hush money payment to porn star to conceal affair

WASHINGTON: Former US President Donald Trump has been arrested for his alleged role in hush money payment made to porn star Stormy Daniels in 2016 to conceal an alleged affair. With this, Trump became the first former US president to be arrested in a criminal case. The arrest was a heavy blow to Trump, who is trying to run for a second term as the Republican candidate in the next presidential election. The arrest came after Trump surrendered to authorities at a court in Manhattan.

In anticipation of Trump's arrival in court, the Manhattan courthouse has been heavily guarded. He will next be brought to a courtroom, where he will be arraigned. He is also expected to be fingerprinted as part of the formal arrest

As per allegations, Trump paid $1,30,000 (over Rs 1 crore) to Stormy Daniels (44) during the presidential election in 2016 to conceal an affair he constantly denied. There are no rules preventing an accused from contesting the US presidential election. But the Stormy Daniels case is sure to be a talking point by the opposing candidates during the election.
