Famed dairy farmer on verge of closing business; government says no help

IDUKKI: The Kerala government is denying service to a dairy farmer who collected more than Rs 1 crore worth of milk post the Covid pandemic. Idukki Bedhel native T T Jiji wants his dilapidated farm changed but the government is batting no eyelid into the farmer's case.

It was during the heavy floods that Jiji’s farm went destroyed. Since then, the farmer has been running amok to government offices in hope of getting his farm fixed. He says the farm is on the verge of closing down. As per Jiji, the farm won’t stand another monsoon season. It was 17 years before that Jiji took the 10-cent plot to start a farm. However, there is no original record of the property. In 2014, it was Jiji who gave most liters of milk to the dairy farm corporative society in the Bedhel region. In 2016, minding his success, he renovated his farm and bought many more cows. Sadly enough, the Okhi of 2018, and the deluge in 2019 took away a fair part of the farm into rumbles. Jiji approached the diary society countless times in need of favor but was shown the door.

During this time, the loan period for his land ended which forced Jiji to reach the government in favor of allowing new land to start his farm. Minister Roshy Augustine even gave a recommendation letter to allow loan for the farmer. However, the Kerala bank was not just ok with the recommendation but called for proper approval from the government's side, since the loan amount to be dispersed was high.

Jiji even reached the CM office and got a favorable response from the chief who said all measures will be adopted to save Jiji's farm and living. Many officers since then visited his farm for inspection, but no help came. Jiji in pure dismay reached the High Court asking for intervention. The government meanwhile has been dragging the case asking the court for more time to respond. Jiji contemplates that if the monsoon gets strong, the farm will fall killing nearly 20 bovines in which a good number are pregnant.
