BENGALURU: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the tiger population in the country has increased. There has been an increase of 200 tigers in five years. Currently, there are 3,167 tigers in the country which was 2,967 in 2018.
The Prime Minister has released the national tiger census at the Bandipura Tiger Reserve in Karnataka on the occasion of 50 years of Project Tiger. Modi arrived here on Sunday morning. He travelled through the forest in a jeep. Safari rides were prohibited for public here today in view of the Prime Minister's visit.

The Prime Minister also visited Mudumalai Theppakkadu Elephant Camp in Tamil Nadu. The pictures and videos of the visit are going viral on social media. Modi also met Boman-Bellie couple from the Oscar-winning documentary 'Elephant Whisperers'.
