KOCHI: Kerala Blasters have filed an appeal against the disciplinary action taken by the All India Football Federation (AIFF) for the team staging a walkout during the ISL playoffs held in 2023. In the last ISL 2022-23, Kerala Blasters FC had been fined Rs 4 crore for walking out without completing the playoff match against Bengaluru FC.

Blasters coach Ivan Vukomanovic, who recalled the players, has been banned for 10 matches and fined Rs 5 lakh by the AIFF. After facing the ban, Blasters will be managed by Frank Dowen in the Super Cup.

The incident that led to disciplinary action was during the Blasters-Bengaluru play-offs held at Srikantirava Stadium in Bengaluru on March 3. In the extra time, Bengaluru FC was awarded a free kick near the Blasters' box. Before the Blasters players were ready, Bengaluru captain Sunil Chhetri quickly kicked the ball into the net. The goal was allowed by Crystal John, who was the referee in this match. In protest, Vukomanovic called the team back and returned to the dressing room.

The AIFF informed that if the Blasters management and coach Vukomanovic do not publicly express their regret for the incident of recalling the players, and will have to pay a fine of Rs 2 crores and another Rs 5 lakhs for Vukomanovic. After this, Kerala Blasters FC and coach Ivan Vukomanovic expressed regret the other day. The club has already announced that it will appeal against the fine.
