KOCHI: The High Court has stayed further proceedings in the case registered by the Kannur Thaliparamb police against Swapna Suresh for allegedly defaming Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and CPM State Secretary MV Govindan through social media. The single bench said verbally that there was malicious intent in filing the case and sought an explanation from the government in the petition.

Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas granted a stay through an interim order on the petition filed by Swapna to quash the case. A case was registered on the complaint filed by CPM area secretary Mohan Raj on charges of conspiracy, forgery and attempt to create a riot. Swapna alleged that MV Govindan offered Rs 30 crore through a person named Vijesh Pillai to withdraw the allegations against the Chief Minister and his family. Swapna's petition also states that MV Govindan responded to the lawyer's notice sent to her.
