‘Dr Bindu’ befriends youths, extorts cash on pretext of marriage, arrested

KOLLAM: A woman and her friend were arrested for extorting lakhs on the pretext of marriage. The Kurathikadu police arrested the first accused Bindu (41), of Kollam Chadayamangalam and the third accused Raneesh (35) of Irinjalakuda in Thrissur. Mithun Mohan, the second accused and son of Bindu is on the run.

The two were arrested on the complaint of a native of Thekkekkara Vathikulam. The Kollam cyber police summoned Bindu to the station for questioning her on the complaint of a native of Karunagappally. The accused who reached the station yesterday were arrested by a team led by Kurathikadu sub inspector B Baiju. It is hinted that the two have extorted Rs 10 lakh from a native of Kottayam in a similar manner.

The two deceive people whom they meet on social media. Bindu befriended a resident of Vathikulam posing as a post graduate doctor and promised to get married after completing the course. Later demanded an amount of Rs 5 lakh for studies. After receiving the money in the account, she stopped calling him. He then filed a complaint against Bindu when her phone was switched off.
