NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has shared the news that Sabarimala Airport has received site clearance. Sharing a tweet from the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the Prime Minister tweeted that this is great news for the tourism and especially for spiritual tourism.
The project was conceived with the idea of a feeder airport for Nedumbassery at Cheruvally, is going to be an international airport. The project aims to build the largest runway in the state. The distance from Cheruvally, the site for the airport, to Sabarimala is 48 km. It will be easy for pilgrims from other states and from countries including Singapore, Malaysia and Nepal to reach Sabarimala.
The number of foreign pilgrims reaching Sabarimala will increase. 40 per cent of the people who rely on Nedumbassery airport and 60 per cent of those who reach Thiruvananthapuram airport are within 30 km radius of the proposed Sabarimala airport. The airport will benefit expats in Pathanamthitta, Kottayam and Idukki districts.
