PATHANAMTHITTA: The new born baby found abandoned by its mother in a bucket hours after delivery, will be discharged from the hospital today. The doctors of Kottayam Medical College informed that the baby who was undergoing treatment has fully recovered. The baby will be handed over to the organization Thanal.

The woman from Kota, after her delivery on April 4, abandoned the baby in a bucket in the bathroom. The incident came to light when the woman aged 34 sought treatment for bleeding at the hospital in Chengannur. She told the doctors that the baby died after delivery and that she had buried it. However, her elder son said the baby was kept in a bucket in the bathroom.

The hospital authorities immediately informed the police and the child welfare committee. The police led by SHO Vipin reached her house and shifted the baby to the nursing home. Without wasting time, sub inspector Abhilash of Chengannur police station carried the bucket and rushed the child to the hospital in a jeep.

After giving first aid, the police shifted the baby to the children’s hospital. A team led by hospital superintendent Dr K P Jayaprakash did their best to regain the life of the baby. The child was attended by two women from Thanal, a child care centre functioning in Omallur.
