THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Ernakulam native Joseph John has said that he did not send a threat letter to assassinate Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He responded to the media that the police had approached him earlier and he said that he is innocent. Joseph’s daughter alleged that personal enmity was behind such an act. “We are innocent. We don’t want to reveal the name of the person who sent the letter, but this is done due to personal enmity over church related matters. He had sent similar fake letters before”, she said.

Joseph alleges that someone else tried to trap him. He added that the handwriting of this person and the one in the letter is similar. The threat letter with Joseph’s name was sent to BJP state committee office.

BJP state president K Surendran responded that the police should conduct a strict investigation into the incident. “The intelligence report released by the police itself says that religious extremist organizations are strong in Kerala. The police should conduct a strict investigation into the threat to the Prime Minister's security. The letter came to the BJP state office a week ago. It was handed over to the DGP on the same day. The letter contains the name and number of the person who sent that. Did the police check this?” asked K Surendran.
